Pearly puffs.
Good things come in puffs.
I spent a few years living and working in Mumbai. The city has its own rhythm — the buzz of South Bombay, the sea breeze along Marine Drive, the old Art Deco facades — and I rather liked keeping time with it. There was always somewhere to go, someone to meet and, inevitably, something to eat. In India, food slips effortlessly into conversation, celebration and hospitality, and occasionally into a polite argument about whether you’ve eaten enough.
There was always somewhere to go, someone to meet and, somehow, something to eat. In India, food has a wonderful habit of becoming part of everything — conversation, celebration, hospitality and, occasionally, a gentle argument about why you haven't eaten enough.
It was there that I first discovered the humble foxnut.
Years later, back in the UK, I found myself wondering:
Why isn't everyone eating these?
So we started roasting them, playing with flavours and, eventually, gave them a name.
Small. White. Puffy.
Pearly Puffs.
Some savoury. Some sweet. All gloriously crunchy.
Grown in India. Roasted in Chiswick.
And yes, they happen to have some rather nice nutritional qualities too.
But we're not here to sermonise.
We're here for the crunch. The flavour. The simple pleasure of a really good snack.
Good things come in puffs.
And these are very good things indeed.
